Essay

Dissertation is devoted to complex analysis and characterization of a collection of lamps of pre-Roman period found during excavations in Olbia and its settlements. A critical analysis of the scientific literature ad the history of the study of lighting devises is described. The typology of lamps is created that includes 60 types and their variants, which contain both imported and local examples. The division is based on typological chronological principle. In addition, thereis also used such parameters of separation as material from which the lamps are produced, production centers, clay, morphology, shape and coating of lamps. It is refined their manufacturing process and the use and purpose of lamps. In addition, due to the significant chronological range of lamps, separately, the dynamics of lamp forms that change over time from an open mold to semi-closed shoulders form is traced. Through analogies with lampsfrom the Mediterranean and other ancient centers, it is managed to trace the trade relations with the cities of importing lamps found on the territory of Olbia. Also, with the help of statistics of imports and local manufacture of lamps it is revealed the ratio of them in chronological order. The created typology allows to focus on the ratio of Olbia and the Bosporus collections on typological point. Keywords: Olbia, lamp, typology, pre-Roman period.
