Work is devoted to problems of application of activity approach in teaching geography of Ukraine in secondary schools and to highlight its importance to methods of teaching geography. The theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of the activity approach in teaching geography of Ukraine are considered. The state of the problem in the theory and practice of teaching geography and the role and importance of learning activity in shaping the content and structure of curricula, textbooks, manuals, educational technologies of the geography of Ukraine are analyzed. The progressive role of schoolbooks creativity through problem tasks, independent and practical work, discussion, cognitive game; application research and problem-search methods; information and communication technologies in terms of teaching activity of geography of Ukraine are defined. The methods of teaching geography of Ukraine on the basis of activity approach is elaborated. It is based on processes of interaction between a teacher and a student through active involvement of a student into cognitive activity. The results can be used in school practice of teaching geography of Ukraine and for the preparation of future teachers in universities. They are reflected in the published articles in professional journals and presented as part of training and teaching manuals.
