Essay

The thesis contains research on the economic substance of railway engineering as a specific sub-sector of the world economy. The basic components, features, structural elements and optimal parameters of railway transport market and features of its subjects in the context of globalization are determined. Factors of transforming corporate strategies influenced by current economic conditions are determined and scientifically grounded. The transformation of modern methods of management of production and marketing field of railway engineering is studied. The influence of the world crisis on the selection of priority areas in the market of railway transport is described. Background and current state of development of the railway rolling stock market in Ukraine as one of the major markets in the economy are reviewed. Practical recommendations aimed at accelerating the process of formation of Ukrainian market of railway transport, ways of optimizing it and companies entering foreign markets are developed and grounded. It was argued that the transformation of the international management of railway engineering companies is in the form of gradual decentralization of international management by means of synergies from the creation of new international value-added chains and the use of modular technology, international management quality standards, lean production system, the socialization of business processes. The combination of these elements along with the process of decentralization of management leads to increased efficiency of railway engineering industry companies and strengthening their international competitiveness. The detected priority ways of development of railway engineering industry of Ukraine as one of the key domestic industries are the following: 1) maximum energy efficient innovation combined with the reduction in the cost of finished goods; 2) attracting foreign investors, in the form of a joint venture with foreign investors no more than 51 %, which allows the latter to minimize the risks, while maintaining control of the enterprise; 3) increasing up to 70-80 % the degree of localization of production, which is manifested in the increase of the share of finished products of added value formed in Ukraine; 4) enhance cooperation with leading international railway industry companies that have experience with the rolling stock designed for 1520 mm; 5) use the concept of import substitution for those components in the manufacture of which the Ukrainian companies have strong competitive positions, other components to buy from companies that specialize in the respective nodes. It is stated in the thesis that the management activities of the railway machine building companies should be based on the effective involvement of such enterprises into international supply chains. The producers should not produce a railway vehicle as a whole if it is not effective for business. Business efficiency indicators for railway companies are provided in the thesis. These indicators may also be used by other machine building companies after certain adaptation.
