Essay

The theory of language strata and, especially, the substrate theory are the important scientific instrument for the interpretation of etymologically discussed and unetymologized words. The substrate aspect has been profoundly investigated in European languages, but it still requires much of scientific approach in Ukrainian language. There are many prominent scientists, known worldwide, who research the following issue, the following research mainly focuses on the names of the Ukrainian researches, which touch upon the substratology. Substratology is the branch of linguistics, which entirely differs from comparative historical method, the theory describes the processes of language convergence, which doesn't interfere with the comparative historical method issues, but complements them. Varying substrates and adstrates can be predisposed on the territory of ancient Europe, but the following information is still hypothetical and requires further profound investigation with the extra sources consolidation. Linguistic facts and hypotheses correlate with extra-linguistic, i.e. ethnological, archaeological and other evidence, according to the S.V. Semchynskyi theory of inner-language, outer-language, and extra-language factors of language development.
