Essay

The object of the research is the process of studying Ukrainian literature in 5 - 6th secondary school grades. The aim of the research is to substantiate theoretically, develop and test methodologies of studying of epic works at Ukrainian literature classes in 5 - 6th grades taking into account the type of dominant perception of students. Methods: theoretical, empirical and statistical. The scientific novelty of the research is that the author: first developed and theoretically proved and tested the method of studying the epic works by the 5 - 6th class pupils based on representative types of perception of young adults and genre specificity of the texts; also developed the typology of skills that pupils of 5 - 6th classes should have according to the specific knowledge of the environment; classified literary and creative tasks according to the types of recipients' perception; determined epic cognitive (genre) component of literary competence of a student, methodical approaches of studying prose works at Ukrainian literature lessons based on consideration of major psychological and personal factors that influence the student's perception and understanding of a literary work. The practical significance of the results is working-out the method of studying of epic works at Ukrainian literature classes in 5 - 6th grades. The degree of implementation - high. Scope (the area of use) - educational, educational institutions.
