Essay

The work is devoted to typological and functional analysis of buildings of Old Rus' village of Middle Dnieper Region as an individual social and cultural event. Written, archeology and ethnographic sources makes it possible to distinguish among the objects of Southern Old Rus' villages buildings associated with various branches of economic activity of their inhabitants, their household and living. In the regions' points studied were design-different living constructions with heating devices and surviving interior details. Crafting and manufacturing objects associated with pottery, iron metallurgy, blacksmith, chemical forestry crafts. A little less represented are other crafts -processing of non-ferrous metals, stone, bones etc. Workshop at village Khodosivka-Roslavske, which was producing jewelry and cult-objects made of amber, is absolutely unique. Agricultural objects are represented by various types of sheave dryers, bawns. Household buildings were designed for processing and storage of various feedstock, tools and gears. Outstanding are the wells in Avtunichi and Shumlai settlements. Studies on Liskove vezhi they have no analogues among the village buildings of Rus'. A move from non-systematic to line building was observed in the region's villages. Noted was emergence of tofts, their peculiarities. Studied were season and long-term points, non-fortified houses of social top class representatives, specialized settlements, multi-branch economy villages. The works results demonstrate a high level of development of village structures of the region in Old Rus' times.
