Essay

Object: cultural and chronological processes in the context of the Late Paleolithic and transitional phase between the Middle and Late Paleolithic of Eastern Europe. Objective: to ascertain the origin, cultural identity and chronological boundaries of Upper Paleolithic settlements of site Koulychivka. Methods: comparative, formal-typological, problem-chronological, historical-cartographic, statistical, geomorphological, stratigraphic, lithological, absolute dating. Results: comprehensively systematized materials from site Kremenets I on modern principles of technical-typological analysis, reviewed the validity of the isolation of identified by V. Savych Upper Paleolithic layers with parallel processing of artifacts collections; based on geological and paleoclimatic data analyzed structure and planigraphy of cultural layers, put forward the idea of a lack in layers I and II housing units (with V. Savych), proved their artificial character, made a new interpretation of collections of flint products from the lower layers of site Koulychivka through unified typology, which allows to review some aspects of the character of the original settlement of site, questioned the origin and development of cultural tradition of Bohunician industry at the north of Podillya in the early time of the Late Paleolithic. Scope of application: for writing general works devoted to the ancient history of Ukraine, scientific and popular scientific works, textbooks.
