Essay

Ukrainian fiction texts might be classified chronologically and according to the specifics of genres and verbalization of concepts in them. During the first half of the XX century two genres were represented: science fiction (V. Vynnychenko's 'Solar machine' and Yu. Smolych's 'Household of doctor Galvanescu') and fantasy (M. Kotsiubynskyi's 'Shadows of forgotten ancestors' and Lesia Ukrayinka's 'The forest song'). Several genres developed during the second half of the XX century: science (-technical) fiction (V. Babenko, A. Balabucha, V. Vladko, M. Dashkiev etc.) and philosophical fiction as a sub-genre (O. Berdnyk, N. Okolitenko); fictional reconstruction of history, ethnography, folklore (O. Ilchenko, S. Plachynda, L. Kononovych, partially V. Shevchuk); literary fairy tale, mainly for young readers (I. Bagmut, O. Berdnyk, A. Dimarov, V. Nestaiko, B. Chalyi). Early XXI century is represented by many syncretic genres.
