Essay

The thesis deals with a complex methodological approach to military terminology analysis based on the empirical material of the Persian, Ukrainian and English languages. The use of the cognitive-pragmatic approach has been substantiated in the work and the algorithm of the military terminology study within the model of term – terminological system – discourse on all of its three levels (micro-, macro- and mega-level) has been suggested. The thesis provides definition of some terms of the military discourse and the discourse of war based on lexicographical and discourse analysis; studies cognitive and pragmatic mechanisms of the Persian, Ukrainian and English military terminology; determines contemporary international factors that contribute to the expansion of military space and cognitive reproduction of the military terminology; deals with term-codes defining conceptual bases to the national and global military/war discourse. The paper provides the analysis of cognitive and pragmatic features of the military slang formation as a part of informal discourse and military potential formation of a new military terminology. As it has been stated, the military slang operates in its usual environment in oral speech or written language, serves and creates informal military discourse as a source of eliminating lacunas in military terminology.
