Essay

The dissertation is devoted to theoretical and practical aspects of the functioning of the United Nations Human Rights Council. The opportunities of the UN General Assembly on Human Rights were considered as the basis of its supervisory powers. The reasons and conditions of legal and institutional restructuring of the UN Commission on Human Rights to the Human Rights Council were researched. The place of human rights was substantiated in the legal structure of the UN. The basic acts and decisions adopted by the Human Rights Council, its subsidiary bodies and their legal validity were studied. Some features of the internal organization and functioning of the HRC were analyzed in the dissertation. The features of the universal periodic review, its correlation with other means of international control over the human rights situation existing in the United Nations were studied.
