Essay

Research object was non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy, resulted from Diabetes mellitus type 2, induced by streptozotocine and high calorie diet. The research aim was to study the effect of mesenchymal stromal cells of placenta on dynamics of main metabolic indices of homeostasis, level of VEGF and BDNF gene expression, as well as morphological changes in rats with experimental diabetic retinopathy. Research methods were as follows: histological, molecular biology, ophthalmology. In the research there were experimentally substantiated the possibilities of using cryopreserved mesenchymal stromal cells of placenta to normalize metabolic indices, improve functional and morphological parameters of an eye as well as to stabilize the pathological process proceeding. Application of cryopreserved mesenchymal stromal cells of placenta may contribute to manifested positive effect on clinical course of non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Basing on the findings there has been developed the new method to treat diabetic retinopathy in experimental animals, which foresees a single intravenous and intravitreal injection of cryopreserved mesenchymal stromal cells of placenta.
