Bahlay M. Traditional summer calendar and household rites of Volhynians: general Ukrainian features and local peculiarities

Object: a summer series of Volyn national calendar. Objective: to investigate comprehensively and analyze the summer calendar and household rites of Volhynians. Methods: chronological, typological, comparative, reconstruction and ethno-linguistic analysis, observation, interviewing and photofixation. Results: for the first time comprehensively researched summer calendar and household rites of Volyn as an integral part of Ukrainian national calendar, in scientific circulation introduced new ethnographic materials collected during field expeditions and unpublished archival materials of Volyn researchers, reconstructed traditions and customs filling of summer cycle for folk calendar of Volhynians, within the studied historical and ethnographic region identified three areas: eastern, middle and western parts of Volyn, improved methods of collecting of field ethnographic materials to the theme "Summer calendar and household rites of Ukrainians", method of research of calendar customs and rituals of Ukrainians. Scope of application: for preparing a monograph on the summer calendar rites of Ukrainians or special historical and ethnographic studies of Volyn, developing of lecture courses for university students, teaching aids on ethnology and during mapping of events for calendar rituals of Ukrainians, Slavs in general.
