Essay

The analysis of remote library services of the largest universities of English speaking countries: USA, Canada, Australia is made. Found that libraries of universities of USA, Canada, Australia offer their users a wide range of remote information services through the electronic catalogs; repositories, which holds the thesis, full-text articles of the university employees; subscribed and a wide range of databases available for free. It is determined that a personal approach to information service by assigning to user the scholar-librarians - curators of the definite area of knowledge, which are oriented in the proper range of information resources is provided in foreign library practice. The solid information basis on the remote library service is obtained. The experience of leading libraries for the purpose of borrowing leading trends by national academic libraries is studied. The results of research methodology of benchmarking allowed to form a complex model of verbal social communication in the modern libraries using remote information services. The models of information processes and social communications have made it possible to generate new social relationships and agents of exchanging with the information in the libraries information environment, and build a model of effective information support of library users in remote mode. The trends of complex library information services modernization are investigated: the reorganization of the system of selective dissemination of information (SDI); the providing remote library information references applying the information technologies and a wide range of information sources; the full-text documents delivering. SDI model as one of the nodes of complex verbal communication models in the library and the own algorithm of it implementation is presented. An algorithm for improving the system of selective dissemination of information, based on the integration of modern information technologies and advanced range of sources that involve in the process of informing. Determined that a staff of professionals specialized in a specific subject area and have the skills to work with information resources, databases and bibliographic sources have to fulfill the processes of that technology. A poll among the library users for identifying information needs and the range of remote information services which are convenient for them was held. Respondents of the sociological research were students of 1-5 courses of technical specialties of Lviv Polytechnic National University. The results revealed the level of provision of the users'information needs, the range of information resources that are most popular, the most convenient channels for communication. It is determined that for the current user in the first place is the possibility of open access to full-text electronic document collections, promptness of the information and full text documents service. It is investigated the most visited social platforms (social networking and videohosting) by student audience to select an effective channel for distributing library news and promotional materials. It will ensure the rational functionality usage of such social platforms. The results of the study showed the need for improving technology of providing the remote information services in the library of Lviv Polytechnic National University.
