Essay

The thesis is devoted to consideration of some features of piano performing culture and specifics of their manifestation in modern Ukrainian musical life. The study proposes a new principle of typology performers based and summarizing the research of leading theorists of piano art of the XX - XXI centuries. Key concepts for the differentiation of performers are concepts: the performing type, the performing thesaurus and the components of the performing thesaurus. Performing type is a complex concept combining: the artist's psychological features, creative methods, professional skills and the structure of their interaction. This concept characterizes the scope of the generalized musical priorities of the performer, his individual creative vision of musical art and the means of its realization. The performer's thesaurus is a combination of the life and professional experience of the performer and his ability to display these spiritual accumulations in his work. In the work it is suggested to divide the thesaurus of the performer into four components: virtuosic, intonational-figurative, interpretative and artistic. The components of the performing thesaurus are four areas of mastery of the performer, each of which, in a generalized form, displays a set of means of expressiveness, which the artist owns. These components are directly related to the individual psychological qualities of the performer: virtuosic with psychophysiology, intonational-figurative - with the possibilities of fantasy and experience of inner hearing, interpretative - with the mind level, artistic - with the charisma of the performer. Analyzing the repertory preferences of the artist gives the most objective information about his typological affiliation and can display all facets of his performing skills and musical tastes. Analytical work with the repertoire of the contestants of the four International competitions of young pianists in memory of V. Horowitz (Kyiv, 2005-2012) revealed that the interests of the contestants were concentrated on the romantic piano repertoire and on the works of composers close to romanticism.
