Essay

The first time the cultural phenomenon of the Trypillianornamentation, its types and modifications,sense interpretations, artistic expression and means of achieving the interdependence of formal, structural-compositional, semantic, and philosophical (cosmological) parameters is examined comprehensivelyin the thesis. The ornamentation of Trypillian culture attracted the attention of researchers as the unique and highly artistic phenomenon of the Eneolithic time. On the broad background of archaeological artifacts ofEneolithic era from the territory of Ukraine and Moldova, in the context of development of European art of the archaic, Trypillian vase paintingis analyzed submitted by incised and painted (drawn) ornamentation which was applied to ceramic cult (ritual) vessels. The problem of the culture prehistoric specificity and nature of the ornament isconsidered; the cult character and functional features of the ornamentation of Trypillian culture are regarded too. The detailed typology of Trypillian ornaments was created on the basis of the systematization of its main characteristics; selected dominant compositional motives, schemes and modifications; a comprehensive analysis of the abstract-geometrical and figurative (anthropomorphic and zoomorphic) imagesdefines the formal-stylisticandsemantic-interpretativefeatures of the Trypillian ornament.
