The thesis is devoted to complex research of scientific and educational activities of I. J. Horbachevsky (1854 - 1942). For the first time the integral system analysis of scientific and inventive activities of the scientist was held on the basis of available sources and historiography.The main part is focused on the analysis of invention - synthesis of uric acid. Also throughly covered activity of scientist towards solving the problems of sanitation in Austria-Hungary, the problems of health enhancement and nutrition of Ukrainian people in Galicia.
