Essay

In the dissertation, on the basis of materials of the author's own field researches, studies of wide scope of literature and sources, there is examined a role of sanctities and sacred places in the spiritual culture of the Ukrainian historical and ethnographical region of Podillya in the XX-th - beginning of the XXI-st century. The level of study of the stated problem among scientists in the mentioned chronological framework has been fairly low so far. Special attention in the used publications is given to the contemporary beliefs and the conceptions about the subject of investigation widespread among the population living on the mentioned territory. Specific historical surcumstances influenced in different ways on the religiousness of the people and on its reflection in folklore, which describes different sacral locuses.
