Oliynyk M. A Traditional Clothing of Ukrainians in Everyday Urban Life: The Second Half of ХІХ - Early ХХІ Centuries. (on the Materials of Kyiv City)

This thesis presents the first complex study of the ethnocultural phenomenon of existence of traditional Ukrainian clothing in everyday urban practices during the second half of XIX century to early XXI century on an example of Kyiv city. The state of scientific analysis of the problem is examined, source base is formed and research methodology is specified. The three periods of urbanistic development of the Ukrainian folk clothing are distinguished. The main factors of the diffusion of village clothing to the urban socio-cultural dimension are analyzed. The role of Ukrainian intelligentsia in recognizing of value of the Ukrainian clothing as an important visual marker expressing the national identity is discussed. Formation of a new urbanistic tradition of existence of Ukrainian ethnic garments is shown. The directions of development of the traditional clothing of Ukrainians in urban everyday life are followed. The basic complexes of the clothes with Ukrainian markers are characterized.
