The dissertation is devoted to complex analysis of formation and development of methods and technologies of water treatment facilities in the NAS of Ukraine, namely the Institute of colloid and water chemistry A. V. Dumansky the NAS of Ukraine in the field of purification of drinking and waste water in Ukraine, Institute of general and inorganic chemistry V. I. Vernadsky the NAS of Ukraine in the field of the removal of harmful substances from industrial wastewater, Institute of Hydrobiology the NAS of Ukraine in the field of pollution of freshwater ecosystems in Ukraine, Institute of biology of the southern seas named A. A. Kovalevsky the NAS of Ukraine in the field of studying the hydrobiological regime and the sanitary state of the waters of the Black Sea-Azov basin, Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry and Petrochemistry the NAS of Ukraine in the field of liquidation of consequences of technogenic impact of industrial enterprises and dumps on sewage, Institute of Hydromechanics the NAS of Ukraine in the field of development of polymeric fibrous-porous materials for reclamation and hydraulic engineering construction and water treatment. The main methods and technologies of water treatment are presented, their advantages and disadvantages are shown. The achievements of scientists in the field of drinking water preparation and the current trends in the development of the industry are analyzed, namely: E. V. Oppokova, A. V. Topachevsky, A. P. Lidov, I. T. Goronovsky, F. D. Ovcharenko, A. T. Pilipenko, L. A. Kulskiy, V. V. Goncharuka, V. D. Romanenko, A. I. Denisova, L. A. Zhuravleva, Y. P. Zaitsev. The scientific, scientific, organizational and public activities of the famous Ukrainian scientist in the field of colloid chemistry and water purification L. A. Kulskiy are considered. The importance of L. A. Kulskiy scientific, organizational and scientific research activity for the development of methods and technologies for water purification is analyzed, his pedagogical activity is examined and the most significant results of the scientist and his followers are indicated.
