Essay

The dissertation research is devoted to the complex study of terminological systems of legal acts of the European Union (EU) on the basis of English, German, French and Ukrainian. The terms of EU legal acts are systematized according to structural and semantic indicators; the classification of the special vocabulary of EU law has been developed. The theoretical basis of terminological systems of EU legal acts is grounded on the correlation between the law and the language, theoretical approaches to terminology, terminological systems, theories of a term, a derivation theory. EU legal act is interpreted as a special text verbalized in the form of a document consisting of some units, combined by different types of lexical, grammatical and logical types of connection, and operating in the field of special communication in the EU. Legal languages are based on EU law legal systems rooted in different legal concepts, namely Anglo-Saxon and Romano-Germanic law. All linguistic versions of EU legislation have equal legal effect. Results of the study showed that the conceptual system of EU law led to the heterogeneity of terminology, elements of which are terms from other branches of law and related sciences, mainly financial, economic and socio-political ones. At the same time we have stated the presence of specific terminological elements within the EU terminology. It has been found out that national specific elements are manifested on the level terminological parallels, where terms show differences in the meaning volume due to a various number of differential semes, as well as on the syntactic level, resulting in differences in the structure and correlation of simple and complex sentences.
