Essay

The thesis is devoted to poetonym oppositions, which are a complex of literary text proper names, or poetonyms, connected by a certain kind of relation, usually of contrast type. Proper names of literary text form a system called poetonymosphere, which includes different subsystems of proper names united by certain connections and relations. Poetonym oppositions are singled out in literary text on the same basis as their analogues in the phonetic and lexical systems: the markedness of elements with the reference to some characteristic or, which is less frequent, the degree of expression of a certain feature by virtual referents. By virtual referents, we mean those existing in author’s consciousness, recreated in literary text and reproduced by creative consciousness of the reader.
