Essay

The thesis presents a linguistic-historiographical research of the problem of onemember sentences in the Indo-European languages. The problems of the origin, structure and principles of functioning of one-member sentences in languages with different structure are under research. Special attention is paid to evolution of the idea of definition and classification of one-member sentences in European linguistics of XIX – early XXI centuries. The analysis of theoretical resources has allowed to reveal the principles of dissociation of one-member sentences from two-member ones as they were viewed by A. A. Shakhmatov, A. M. Peshkovskiy, V. V. Vinogradov, E. M. Galkina-Fedoruk, A. N. Gvozdev, L. A. Bulakhovskiy, P. S. Dudyk, M. K. Grunskiy, S. S. Dlozhevskiy, M. F. Sulima, S. A. Ovcharuk, O. S. Mel’nichuk, N. Yu. Shvedova, N. L. Ivanitska, V. S. Yurchenko, V. V. Babaytseva, A. G. Rudnev and others.
