Essay

The thesis concerns the study of the problem of social communicative competence formation of future navigators in the learning process of the liberal arts. The notion «social communicative competence of future navigators» is defined as professionally important ability containing the system of social communicative knowledge and skills as well as main values and personal qualities required for efficient interaction and cooperation aboard to ensure the safety of the vessel and proper professional activities. The structure of social communicative competence of future navigators is determined by the content of their professional activities. It includes the following components: personal value-based component (value attitude of the navigators to their job, other people, crew and social communicative interaction, motivation of professional activities, complex of personal qualities required for keeping up appropriate communication with other people); cognitive-semantic component (essential knowledge for effective establishment of business relationship with the crewmembers, teamwork, encourage effective level of communication between members of multinational and multicultural crew, considering the religious and world-view diversity) and activity result-based component (interactive, perceptual, language, psychologically corrective and cross-cultural skills). The pedagogical conditions of future navigator’s professional competence formation are singled out and grounded; they are the structuring of the content of liberal arts according to the main values of future navigators social communicative interaction, the use of dialogical methods for developing the skills of interpersonal professional cooperation of navigators, development of skills and habits of taking managerial decision based on the context learning, the readiness of scientific pedagogical staff for future navigators’ social communicative competence formation. The structural functional model of future navigators’ social communicative competence formation in the learning process of the liberal arts has been developed. This model comprises the component blocks, namely motivation target, content organizational and assessment result-based ones. The criteria of future navigators’ social communicative competence formation as well as the specifications of the levels have acquired further development owing to the usage of performances which allow obtaining the quantitative and qualitative characteristics. The criteria are personal, cognitive and activity ones. The levels of developed social communicative competence are low, middle and high. The methodical recommendations for the scientific pedagogical staff concerning the formation of professional competence have been worked out for the outcome of experimental program. They contain the basic guidelines of the investigated question.
