Essay

The thesis gives a systematic analysis of restrictive syntaxemes in structure of Ukrainian proverbs for the first time in linguistics, with the use of large actual material, which is selected out by the way of continuous selection. It has been proved, that the restriction of sphere of fairness of judgement, expressed by the predicative centre of proverb, is one of the leading principles, with the help of which proverbs acquire figurativeness and aphoristic character. So far as restrictive syntaxemes demonstrates specific syntaxic properties, that differ them from traditional varities of semantic and syntaxic units, theoretical issues of their syntaxic and semantic qualifications have been considered in the thesis. It was shown, that these units in the overwhelming majority reveal signs of syntaxic duplexes, which are, as a rule, generally correlated with the phenomena that refer to determinants and topics in linguistic literature . Prepositiveness is a formal sign of the syntaxemes. The ability of prepositive forms of genetive, dative, accusative, instrumental and prepositional cases of nouns, as well as adverbs, to acquire restrictive functions has been determined in separate chapters. Lexical-semantic conditions of their appearance in the form of a nominative case are outlined. A great deal of attention has been paid to the issue of semantic and syntaxic factors that prevent the emergence of restrictive functions in prepositive syntaxemes. The thesis has theoretical and practical significance for paremiology and opens prospects for a typological description of proverbs. The obtained results also give new data on the repertoire of syntaxic functions of sentence members in the Ukrainian language.
