In the dissertation the regularities of the formation of suburban zones of city-centers are specified, the features of the transformation of the functional and planning structure of suburban rural settlements in new socio-economic conditions are generalized, the typology of modern suburban rural settlements is expanded; The method of selecting the FS of suburban rural settlements is offered. For the development of the methodology, determined parameters characterizing settlement resources and determine the formation of specialization of suburban rural settlements, defined principles and worked out techniques of FPO satellite settlements, recreational and industrial settlements, developed proposals for improving the FPO rural settlements in suburban areas of large cities. The algorithm of choice of FS of suburban rural settlements is offered.
