The complex use of socio-communicative, systemic, historical and genetic approaches has allowed to reconstruct the complex hierarchical structure and directions of multilevel and multi-vector entities of subjective communication ties – the basis for the formation of a cognitive-rich communication environment, which contributed to the formation of the scientific worldview and professional qualities of O. Sokalsky, his career and creative growth as an outstanding Ukrainian librarian and cultural figure; to reveal the contribution of O. Sokalsky in the development of cultural and artistic education in Ukraine; to highlight the pedagogical and organizational activities of a scientist at the Kyiv State Institute of Culture (now KNUCA); to define the main directions of research O. Sokalsky in the field of general and special librarianship; to reveal the contribution of O. Sokalsky in the formation of organizational and theoretical and methodological foundations of institutionalization of the Kiev scientific and educational library school; to investigate the contribution of O. Sokalsky's students and followers to the development of librarianship science and education in Ukraine.
The scientific novelty of the obtained results of the thesis research is that for the first time in the domestic librarianship it was discovered, analyzed and systematized archival sources, specialized professional publications, scientific and communication links, which made it possible to determine the main periods of the formation of professional outlook O. Sokalsky, to objectively evaluate its contribution to the formation of theoretical and organizational and methodological foundations of the development of library science and education of Ukraine; previously unknown facts and sources of biographical and scientific heritage O. Sokalsky as an outstanding Ukrainian librarian and cultural figure, the main stages of his creative growth are determined; scientifically substantiated its contribution to general librarianship, library fund studies, bibliography, improvement of technologies of automation and mechanization and automation of library processes, development of principles of organization of the library network, development of the system of branch education and increase of the efficiency of training of library staff; identified features based on O. Sokalsky Kyev scientific and educational library school as a formal and informal center of several generations of like-minded people and disciples, united by the tasks of development and improvement of the quality of higher library education, solving of the most urgent problems of general and special library science; indentified the most productive representatives of O. Sokalsky Kyev scientific and educational library school, proved the presence of a significant scientific work as the leader of the founder of the scientific school, as well as his students, supporters and followers in the form of fundamental and applied scientific researches, doctoral and theses, monographs, textbooks, other scientific publications, the establishment of new scientific directions and the production of their own scientific schools. The results of the research have been improved: the idea of the research groups of the Kyiv scientific and educational library school, united by the general problem of scientific research, historiographical information on the activities of prominent Ukrainian librarians, educators, and organizers of branch education was organized; further development: the methodology of identification and features of regional and personal scientific schools in library science, scientific ideas about the directions of diversification of the problems of scientific research of three generations of Kyiv scientific and educational library school.
