Komochkova O. Professional Training of Linguists at Universities of Great Britain

The thesis presents comparative and pedagogical justification of the problem of linguists’ professional training at British universities. The availability of the research findings on the outlined problem in scientific literature has been analyzed. It has been specified that it has not become the subject of special studies in Ukraine, which confirms the need to study innovative ideas of British experience to justify the opportunities of their creative use in theory and practice of applied linguists’ professional training in Ukraine. The main stages of development of linguistics in the late 20th century – the early 21st century in Great Britain have been determined. General overview of organization of linguists’ professional training at British universities has been presented. The structure and content of linguists’ professional training have been analyzed. The features of the content and organization of linguists’ professional training at British universities have proved that it is focused on humanities. Curricula for linguistics do not significantly differ in content, but are original and correspond to modern linguistic challenges. Compulsory disciplines cover key areas of linguistics (phonetics, semantics, morphology, syntax). Optional disciplines focus on disciplines of linguistics (applied linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, forensic linguistics).
