The research is devoted to the problem of development of professional competence of teachers of biology of rural schools in the conditions of district methodological associations. The scientific-pedagogical analysis of the raised issue was conducted; the essence of the concepts "professional competence of the teacher of biology of schools of rural areas" and "development of professional competence of teachers of biology of rural schools" is specified. The structural components of the professional competence of the teacher of biology of rural schools are arranged and substantiated. Some aspects of the practice of district methodological associations in the process of development of professional competence of teachers of biology of rural schools are described. The pedagogical conditions of professional competence development of teachers of biology of rural schools in the conditions of district methodological associations have been theoretically substantiated and experimentally tested. Structural-functional model, educational and methodological support for the development of professional competence of teachers of biology of rural schools was developed and implemented in the work of district methodological associations. The criteria, indicators and levels of development of professional competence of teachers of biology of rural schools are determined.
