The thesis is a study that comprehensively examines abstract artistic expression in the context of artistic culture of Ukraine, offering a new view of abstraction as a unique artistic form, based on universal cultural codes that operate from the past to the present. Understanding the nature of abstract art has provided the basis for introducing the concept of "abstract sign" into the scientific circle, to provide an adequate definition of the abstract image and its semiotic elements.
The thesis systematically determines the preconditions for the emergence, formation and development of abstraction in the fine arts of Ukraine. Analysis of the period of the ancient history of Ukraine, Ukrainian folk decorative art, Ukrainian avant-garde movement of the early XX century, abstract practices of the middle, the end of the XX century and the beginning of the XXI century discovered the relationship between abstract artistic expressions of various historical milestones and artistic forms of its manifestations. The initial element of the image-creation - the line and its transformation, which is the first expression of self-awareness and self-expression of a person and a symbol of its connection with the universe, is established. The study of ornamentation of Ukrainian folk decorative art has determined its dominant colors (red, black) and supramatist key form (cross). It has been proved that the selection of colors and their combination, which crystallized over the centuries in folk art, combined with archaic forms of geometric character, together laid the foundation of modern Ukrainian abstract art as the main stylistic component. It is revealed that the main achievement of the Ukrainian avant-garde movement is a conscious exit into abstraction, the construction of a new system of vision and symbolic visualization of being.
The thesis analyzes the creative work of local artists of abstract art direction in the context of Ukrainian art culture of the XX-XXI centuries. from the standpoint of spatial-temporal unity of the development of abstract artistic creation. The main regional centers were discovered, where the most active experimental work of artists in the field of abstract art (the cities of Odessa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Kyiv) is concentrated. In this connection, the synchronism of the time axis of intensification of abstract art in the regions of Ukraine is established.
It is determined that modern abstract art practices in the cultural and artistic space of Ukraine have a tendency towards postmodern tendencies in artistic-spectacular forms. It is revealed that the significant achievement of recent years is the separation of abstract art from other visual practices. This is confirmed by the systematic launch and holding of thematic (abstract art) artistic projects, biennials, festivals organized by professional creative unions, foundations, cultural and art and public associations, educational institutions supported by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
It is revealed that contemporary abstractionism is a fruitful platform in the field of intercultural interaction, which opens new opportunities for cultural development, leads to cooperation between countries, mutual exchange of values and achievements, as well as deepens political, economic and social ties. In the thesis, based on the experience of implementing a number of Ukrainian-Spanish cultural and art projects, it is scientifically grounded that the semiotic forms of abstract art are unique. They consist of a kind of figurative language, which is the primary in the system of artistic signs, having a thousand-year history, through the generations of visual codes of culture. In the present conditions, the language of abstraction is a universal form of broadcasting on the planetary level the basic humanistic and civilizational values of the dialogue of cultures.
