Essay

The subject of the studies is technological process of fuelwood drying. The purpose of the work is to develop a resource-saving technology of fuelwood drying in the processes of heating, steaming and dehumidification of wood. Methods - a methodology for the study of heat-and-mass transfer processes; methods of studying the processes of fuelwood drying, and the physical and thermal properties of beech wood; methods for determining the kinetic characteristics of heating, steaming and drying of wood. Scientific novelty. For the first time, a scientifically grounded technology of convective heating, steaming and drying of fuelwood was proposed, which contributed to the intensification of heat-and-mass transfer processes. Mathematical dependences are obtained by which one can determine the average value of beech wood temperature during the initial heating process. For the first time, depending on the change in moisture content of the wood during drying and other kinetic characteristics, obtained are the values for coefficients of drying, moisture conductivity and water-yielding ability as well as patterns of operating parameters influence on the process of drying fuelwood from beech wood. Practical importance. The parameters are substantiated and low temperature schedules of convective drying of fuelwood from beech wood are developed which take into account the condition of wood during the drying process. Analytical dependences were synthesized for determining the duration of the processes of initial heating, steaming and drying of fuelwood; also, a methodology was elaborated for calculating the technical-and-economic performance of the installations for steaming and drying of fuelwood. The results of the research obtained in the dissertation were used to develop a resource-saving technology of convective drying of fuelwood from beech wood, which provides the maximum possible drying intensity.The results of the research are used at the enterprise ENO FURNITURE LTD and in the educational process during the teaching of the following disciplines: "Technology of drying and protection of wood"; "Heat-and-mass processes of woodworking"; "Technology of sawing-woodworking production".
