Essay

This thesis is devoted to theoretical and practical reasoning of complex studying of flute music in Ukraine and on this basis its roots, historical evolution, modern tendencies and perspectives of development are analyzed. The paper highlights that the establishment of a flute national school is connected with the formation of professional multilevel education (musical schools, conservatories) and the development of a composer's practice. In the middle of the XXth cent. a number of flute compositions of the concert type appear, and at the beginning of the XXIst cent. the number of chamber ensemble and solo flute compositions increases; in the works of modern composers (O. Bezborodko, A. Shmurak and others) modern performing techniques like multiphonics, whistle tones, jet whistles are widely used. In the XXth – XXIst cent. new techniques of the game appear as a result of the intensification of interest in flute in popular music, and in such styles as jazz and World Music ethnic variations of flute are used. Modifications of European flute through the implementation of numerous changes in the design take place, experiments with materials (silver, gold, titanium, platinum, PVC) and types of heads (head-butterfly, glissando head, “UpRite”, Kingma system, Drelinger, etc.) are done. The perspectives of flute functioning in Ukraine are determined by its amplification in non-academic music. Key words: flute, musical culture, flute music of Ukraine, jazz, flute design.
