In the thesis, the inconsistency of the urban planning organization of the higher educational establishments (HEE) complexes has been determined. It was made in the course of their development to the modern requirements of the educational process and the functioning of their members. A methodology of the research of Ukrainian HEE development in modern conditions has been developed. Via systematic approach, the main system-forming element of HEE has been detected - the learning-scientific-administrative unit. Two main types of complexes of HEE based on the method of classifications have been distinguished by the spatial organization: spatial-holistic and spatial-disintegrated. The formation of specific urban planning areas of student activity in the structure of the city has been determined. They are functional planning elements and serves the HEE`s needs and the city`s vital activities. Three types of them (learning, residential and industrial) have been detected. The socio-economic and town-planning factors that influence the development of HEE on the example of Kharkov city have been analyzed and determined. The main regularities, principals and methods of the town-planning development of HEE have been revealed. Recommendations for the perspective urban development of HEE on the example of Kharkov city have been proposed and realised during experimental design. It is proposed to fix certain types of areas of student activity during the implementation of city zoning plans in order to ensure their controlled development.
