The dissertation is devoted to the study of education as one of the most influential means of correction and re-socialization of sentenced persons to imprisonment. The general theoretical principles of ensuring the right of convicts to imprisonment for education are considered, in particular, the present state of scientific development of the issues of organization of education of sentenced persons to imprisonment is analyzed. On the basis of which it is argued that in the existing scientific developments there is no consistent approach to the classification of education to a certain direction of the institutions of the execution of sentences, while the unmotivated position is the classification of general education and vocational and technical training purely to the activities of social and educational work. The content of the concept of education of sentenced prisoners and the value of education of convicts in the process of execution - the detention of prisoners in the form of imprisonment is being studied. Particular attention is paid to the issue of international standards and practices for ensuring the realization of the right of the convicted to education. For the completeness of the analysis of the subject of the study determined in the work, the main forms of education that are implemented in penitentiary institutions are distinguished. The peculiarities of formal education as the main area of education of convicts are considered in detail. Particular attention is focused on the consideration of the current state and perspective directions of the dissemination of informal and informational education in order to improve the quality of the organization of the process of rectification and re-socialization of convicts. Information education should be considered as a priority in planning the development of socio-educational work in the Ministry of Health. As is clear from the plans for conducting educational and cultural events, the leisure time of prisoners is very limited, or rather, there is no diversity in the proposed classes (daily scheduled measures are almost indistinguishable from each other). And this despite the fact that, according to international standards, relations between staff and prisoners should be aimed, among other things, at promoting the social reintegration of prisoners, allowing them to use their time in correctional facilities in a positive way (library, sports, training to overcome aggression, alcohol addiction and drugs, training on social skills development, meetings with representatives of NGOs, etc.). The education of convicts should include a full range of translational formal or other learning processes that enable such individuals to develop their abilities, enrich their knowledge and improve their technical and professional qualifications, or apply them in a new direction to meet their needs. The training of convicts should cover both formal and continuing education, non-formal learning and the whole spectrum of informal learning existing in society. The main purpose of continuous non-formal education of convicts during serving a sentence should be the creation of the necessary conditions for the formation of convicted basic competences of the socially adapted person in the areas of cognitive, civil-society, social-labor, cultural-leisure activity and everyday sphere with the help of means of external influence. The author analyzes in detail the attitude of convicts to imprisonment for various types of educational activities in the process of serving a sentence and assesses the effectiveness of other means of correction and re-socialization. The issue of changing the outline of the organization and introduction of education in places of deprivation of liberty is highlighted. It is proposed to create methodological cabinets in each penitentiary institution to provide prisoners with access to various educational services, organization and management of their learning process. In the work, the draft law on amendments to the Criminal-Executive Code of Ukraine, developed on the basis of the dissertation work, is aimed at improving the education of convicts. The definition of "education of convicts for imprisonment" is formulated, which proposes a targeted process of training in the form of imprisonment in order to remedy them and create conditions for re-socialization through the formation of key (basic) educational competences.
