Essay

In this thesis, in the context of modern entertainment culture, informative and artistic peculiarities of superficial programmes on Ukrainian television, which play an important role in contemporary polyfunctional media culture and television art, including Ukrainian, are investigated. The study of superficial televisional programmes in the general context of entertainment culture will contribute to deepening of the ideas about nature, social and cultural essence, significance, functional peculiarities and prospects of entertainment and superficial media culture development in Ukraine. The methodology of the study is based on the interdisciplinary and inclusive combination of general scientific methods and research tools, integrated from art (for the analysis of informative and artistic peculiarities of superficial programmes on Ukrainian television) and culturological (for the characterization of entertainment culture and art as characteristic features of modern society) approaches. Methods of analysis and synthesis were used to obtain and summarize data on art, culturological, historical, philosophical, sociological literature; functional approach – to find out the influence of superficial television on the characteristics formation of the entertainment culture; historical and chronological – to characterize the main stages, historical and cultural background of television culture formation in Ukraine. Superficial television in the context of artistic and culturological knowledge attracts the attention of researchers in various scientific fields – cultural scientists, art critics, philosophers, psychologists, theorists and practitioners of modern mass media. The works of Ukrainian and foreign art critics and cultural experts place the theoretical basis of the thesis. Entertainment was studied as a polyfunctional phenomenon by V. Babych, V. Darkevych, N. Zorka, Y. Ratner, K. Stanislavska, T. Cherednychenko, A. Shamina a. o. The segment of superficial television in different aspects of development and social functions of television is reflected in the studies of B. Ananiev, M. Danylevskyi, O. Zyrin, Y. Makarov a. o. The lack of systematic attention of scholars to the investigated problem highlights the need for its proper understanding at the theoretical level, which led to the cultural and art study of entertainment and superficial programmes on Ukrainian television as a performance channel of mass communication. In accordance with the purpose, tasks, object and subject of this research, the structure of the thesis is logically constructed. The work consists of the introduction, the main part, conclusions, references. The main part has three sections, which, in content, correspond to the theoretical, historical and practical levels. The thesis investigates the main peculiarities of entertainment in modern culture and states, that cultural imitation as a characteristic feature of time cyclicity definitely influenced the appearance of an original spectacle act. The latest technical inventions stimulate the development of an entertainment culture, which gradually alienates from reality and acquires the quality of a closed independent constancy, prone to creating a special reality with its own laws of existence. The main stages of television art formation in Ukraine and its characteristic features are also analyzed, which made it possible to comprehend the complex and contradictory process of domestic entertainment television formation, to specify the subject of the study – superficial programmes of Ukrainian television – and the corresponding cultural and historical conditions, in which they should be studied. In this thesis the tendencies of television technologies development are investigated; they are characterized by interactive orientation, promote the birth and development of new genres of television programmes, are based on the dialogue of participants, involvement of viewers and listeners into discussion. The use of technical means for the setting of mass performances has been known since ancient times. Television depends on concomitant technology as a set of technical methods, figurative and expressive means, with the help of which the programme idea is implemented.
