Essay

The dissertation presents an analysis of the scientific, engineering, organizational and public activities of the prominent domestic railroad scientist, scientist in the field of railway tariffs S.Yu. Vitte, his historical significance and merits in the development of the science of rail transport at the end of the XIX – early XXth century. Having systematized a variety of source materials, the author depicts a picture of the development of rail transport in the Russian Empire and in Ukraine, comparing this process with foreign ones. It is proved that the scientific and organizational achievements of S.Yu. Vitte became the basis for the development of new ideas and plans for further technical research.
