Essay

The thesis is a fundamental historical-scientific research in which, based on the results of the analysis of historiographical and archival materials and using methodological principles, there is disclosed the multilateral activity of B.K. Yenken - a leading scientist, organizer of domestic agronomy and agricultural research in the first half of the twentieth century. The degree of scientific development of the research subject has been analyzed and it has been established that the activity of the scientist which is sparkled by scientific and practical significance and relevance was not previously comprehensively studied. The analysis of his scientific heritage highlighted its significant contribution to the development of domestic agricultural science. The directions of the scientist’s activity are revealed: public agronomy; breeding and seed production; plant growing; organization of a research case; prevention of gene pool erosion; collecting, study and conservation of plant genetic resources; viticulture; winemaking; gardening; vegetable growing; animal husbandry. The importance of scientific-organizational, publishing, pedagogical and other aspects of B. K. Yenken's work is highlighted. The implementation of his scientific heritage in the works of the Kharkiv Breeding Station, in the future - at the Plant Production Institute named after V. Ya. Yuryev of NAAS, in particular the creation and maintenance of the National Bank of Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine was described.
