Essay

The dissertation thesis is devoted to the problems of development of the urban blue-green territories. The scientific works on urban planning organization of the blue-green territories have been analyzed, current tendencies of formation of the urban blue-green territories have been revealed. Based on the analysis, there have been defined the necessity of the comprehensive study of the urban blue-green territories as a complex landscape system, which operates at the several territorial levels, is being formed under the influence of hydrological processes (in connection with the river catchment area), performs multiple urban planning tasks and functions, including recreation and nature protection. The problems and preconditions of planning organization of the blue-green territories in cities of Ukraine have been defined. The blue-green system of the city has been researched at the four levels of its territorial organization (blue-green network of the city, blue-green corridor of the river, blue-green facility and local stormwater/biodiversity unit). Terminological definitions of the urban blue-green territories have been proposed. Existing methodical approaches to the planning organization of the blue-green territories of the city have been systematized. The following methods of spatial organization, in accordance with the influence of water processes as a dynamic component of the landscape, have been proposed: construction of an artificial river floodplain; restoration of the natural river floodplain; watercourses network branching; natural vegetal water cleansing; landscape management of rainwater and urban runoff. The principles of planning organization of the blue-green territories have been formulated: principle of territorial hierarchy of the urban blue-green territories (at the regional and local levels); principle of multifunctional use (recreational, environmental, sanitary and hygienic, engineering, etc.); principle of dynamic development (in accordance with the changes in natural processes). The following types of the blue-green facilities and models of their planning organization, which correspond with the dynamics of hydrological processes, have been distinguished: embankments with temporarily flooded levels (stepped quay; two-leveled embankment); flood parks (one-side floodplain park; linear valley park); hydromorphological landscapes (flood channels, watercourse network); wetland eco-parks (with riverfront location for river water purification; with riverfront location for rainwater cleansing; with inland-catchment location for urban runoff cleansing); rainwater open spaces (stormwater park, water square, stormwater boulevard). Landscape, architectural and planning features of the recreational environment of the blue-green territories to meet the needs for recreation, nature protection, visual manifestation of the water dynamics and rainwater management have been further developed. The results of the thesis have been implemented in the design proposals for the planning of the riverfront blue-green recreational territories in Kyiv, and in the planning of the blue-green recreational territories with the inland-watershed location in the cities of Kramatorsk and Slavyansk.
