Essay

Object – the lexical-semantic field «person’s age» in the Ukrainian language; aim – to determine the genesis of the constituents of the lexical-semantic field «person’s age», establish its structural-semantic organization as a fragment of the national linguistic worldview, reveal the specific character of representation of certain names’ linguocultural semantics; methods – descriptive, component analysis, etymological, comparative, linguocultural; novelty – for the first time in domestic linguistics the general parameters of the lexical-semantic field «person’s age» as a constituent of the linguistic worldview are outlined and the peculiar features of its structural organisation are revealed; the interaction of lingual and extralingual factors as well contexts of different kind that motivate appearance of certain naming units is established; the peculiar way in which the lexical-semantic field «person’s age» reflects the national factor – worldview, mentality, the character of Ukrainian people, their value guidelines and conception of man – is ascertained; the ways of formation of all age groups are studied, semantic changes in the structure of certain naming units are characterised, the naming units with the meaning «person’s age» are considered and described as ones carrying linguocultural information; results – the materials of the research can be used in writing textbooks in lexicology, in composing Ukrainian ideographic dictionary, in teaching the courses “Ukrainian Lexis and Phraseology”, “Ukrainian Stylistics”, in preparing specialty courses, at scientific seminars in lexical semantics of the word; field – philology.
