Myhalets O. Lexico-Semantic Group “Conflict actions”: System and Structural Approach (on the material of English and Ukrainian)

The given thesis focuses on system and structural approach in applied and lexicographical dimensions to the complex research of the lexico-semantic group “Conflict actions” in Ukrainian and English. The dissertation elaborates and scientifically substantiates the system and structural approach to the study of the lexico-semantic group “Conflict actions” in Ukrainian and English based on combining linguistic methods of research with the formalized analysis of lexical semantics. A card index of the words denoting conflict actions in two distantly related languages (Ukrainian and English) has been compiled; the classification of the verbs according to quantitative and qualitative criteria has been made; their semantic structure has been defined; matrix modelling of lexico-semantic group “Conflict actions” which presents correlations between lexical units and their meanings, and reveals the system and structural organization of lexis denoting conflict actions has been performed. The classification of lexical units into groups according to the degree of their polysemy as well as their lexical meanings into subsey due to the degree of their functionality has been carried out; the common and distinctive features of lexico-semantic group “Conflict actions” in the languages under study have been defined; the position and role of each element of the lexico-semantic group in English and Ukrainian as well as the types of relations between them have been determined.
