The dissertation represents the first comprehensive study of the art of watercolor painting in Ukraine in the context of artistic culture of the XX and early XXI centuries, where the formation of traditions in watercolor painting in a chronological historical sequence reveals and the historical genesis of innovation trends. In the work for the first time: the formation of traditions and innovations in the techniques of watercolor painting as a phenomenon of artistic culture has been traced; The historical and cultural features of the phenomenon of innovation in watercolor painting, which was considered at the same time on two levels: 1) as an innovative reception, newest technique, — for time of origin; 2) as traditional, academic subsoil of becoming of watercolor — from position of modern look; an accent is done on causal connection between innovative finds in the watercolor painting and personality of artist, in accordance with what new terminology is offered in relation to the creative credo of artist («unchained», «innovator», «creative»); comparison of musical and picturesque expressive facilities is carried out for more deep understanding of difficult watercolor technique, finding of influence of music and painting on a man and his vivid perception of work; definition of «transparent polyphony of colors» is offered in a watercolor and grounded importance of his use in research of variety color-harmonic singing-sounding in a watercolor image; it is developed and experimentally approved author technique of texture watercolor image «Tekstyl», that by sight has an effect of textile linen, the woven tapestry reminds, but it is implemented on a paper; in the context of this technique new terminology is offered for pictures: «watercolor pictures-carpets», «watercolor pictures panel», «watercolor pictures-tapestries», «watercolor picture of the pitchfork», «watercolor pictures rushnyk», author’s works in a technique «Tekstyl» is promulgated on an exhibition. Clarified: method of research of fund collections of museums after a model: «history — collection — personality — author — picture».
Conclusions are done, that the way of innovation in a watercolor through all history of artistic creation of artists always was orientated on the search of facilities of enriching of own creative arsenal new technicians, which will do a picture original, author. Exactly an imprint of personality of master in his works is the display of author unchained, innovation and creativity, because any real artist shows itself through work.
