Akkurt V. Linguistic Peculiarities of Persuation in Prosecutor’s Speech in Judicial Discourse

The thesis is devoted to the problem of linguistic means executing modality of persuasion in prosecutor’s speech in two languages (English and Ukrainian). The research of common characters and specific features in the linguistic means of persuasion in prosecutor’s speech in the two languages under analysis, and interpretation of the results (when historically developed structures of English and Ukrainian are taken into consideration) allowed to come to the following conclusion: the key principles of persuasion functioning in court discourse are similar in both languages. It refers to the structure of the prosecutor’s speech, the structure of persuasion modality semantic field, the principles of procedure in court in general, the mechanism of lexical, grammatical and prosody means interaction in the course of actualizing persuasion modality in prosecutor’s speech. The typological determinants and specific characteristics of linguistic means actualization when presenting persuasion have been found in the languages under study. The interpretation of the results is presented.
