In the dissertation the systematic analysis of Leonid Mosendz’s short stories as a component of the visnyk discourse was made for the first time. The history of critical and scientific comprehension of L. Mosendz’s short stories is investigated. Interpretation of texts is presented in accordance with nationalist ideology, visnyk worldview, that are based on the philosophy of a strong man, the capture of the history of the native people, cultural orientation towards the West, asceticism and self-confidence in the name of national independence and development. The place of Leonid Mosendz’s short stories in his literary work and in the context of the visnyk volitional neo-romanticism is specified. The artistic anthropology of the short stories by L. Mosendz is investigated. The features of the genre-compositional structure of the forms of short prose by Mosendz are described, the aesthetic principles of deployment of the plot are grounded. The lexical and grammatical means of creating imagery in the writer's short stories as factors of idiolect are analyzed, the role of artistic means in poetry novelist is outlined. Characteristic features of L. Mosendz’s short stories have been revealed, which show it as an integral part of the verse discourse: mostly social and psychological conflict in the basis of the plot; appeal to the historical past in the subject; the embodiment of the concept of "tragic optimism" in pathos; synthesis, specification of nationalist ideology.
