The dissertation is about the substantiation, development and evaluation of organizational and methodological conditions for optimization of the system of students’ physical education in higher education institutions. The scientific work presents a comparative analysis of the peculiarities of building a physical education system in the state multidisciplinary institution of higher education (Dnieper National University named after Oles Honchar), the state polytechnic institution of higher education (Prydniprovsk State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture) and private institution of higher education, which provide a preparation of specialist in the field of economy and management (Dnieper University named after Alfred Nobel). Organizational and methodological conditions for optimization of the physical education system of students in universities were developed on the basis of the obtained data. These conditions included: determination of principles and organizational and methodological conditions of functioning of the system of students` physical education, which included: unity of goals and content of training programs on physical education taking into account the peculiarities of specialists of different profiles; flexible response to the demands of future specialists from the society; providing an individualized, differentiated approach in working with students; introduction of innovative methods and technologies of physical education into the content of the educational material; creation of conditions for formation of teachers` innovative competence; the choice of forms, methods and teaching aids to achieve the goal of physical education; realization of a personal-active, synergetic approach in education; the focus of the educational process on the disclosure, further development and improvement of students' abilities and personal qualities. The organizational and methodological conditions for optimization of the system of students` physical education in higher education institutions were subjected to expert evaluation. The results of expertise show that in order to increase the efficiency of the system of students` physical education it is advisable: to conduct classes of physical education for the entire term of study in the amount of 4 hours per week; to take into account the interests of students in the choice of sports and the requirements of professional activity for the development of physical and mental qualities of future specialists in the preparation of programs on physical education; use models of motor activity for students of different specialty groups; apply modern methods of theoretical and methodological preparation. Thus, the results of the peer review indicate that the proposed conditions for optimization of the physical education system of students are more effective for the formation of individual physical culture compared to those available in higher education institutions.
