Main tendencies and peculiarities of secondary school teachers’ theory and practice of postgraduate education towards health care competence development are explored in the manuscript. A current state of problem of building a health-saving educational environment is analyzed, some of its peculiarities are determined by modern social transformations, European integration processes and Ukrainian school reformation. Peculiarities of health-saving secondary school teachers’ activity have been found, which allows distinguishing main directions of postgraduate education institutions’ system activity in this area. The content of categorical-conceptual apparatus is analyzed, the essence of concepts "health-saving educational environment", "health-saving competence of secondary school teacher" is determined, author's interpretation of leading definitions of research in the context of continuous professional education development is offered. Structural-component composition (motivational-value, cognitive and technological-activity components) of secondary school teachers’ health-saving competence and main types of its manifestation are substantiated, criterion-level characteristics of studied quality are formulated. Organizational and pedagogical conditions of development of secondary school teachers’ health-saving competence in the system of postgraduate education were singled out, substantiated and tested on the basis of complexity and multilevel of the declared problem: formation of stable motivation for professional self-improvement and development of conscious awareness; ensuring the link between the content of educational process of refresher training and everyday professional and pedagogical activities and stimulating teachers to reflect; enriching hands-on experience in creating a child-friendly educational environment and implementing preventative health-saving projects to meet teachers’ requests and needs. The potential of an individual educational trajectory of a secondary school teacher in postgraduate education is presented as a prerequisite for the effective development of his/her health-saving competence. The author's model of development of health-saving competence of secondary school teacher in postgraduate education system was developed and theoretically substantiated by realization of isolated organizational and pedagogical conditions and their experimental verification was performed.
