Burdak A. Scientific and organizational activity of the Kiev Control Seed Station of the South Russian Society for the Promotion of Agriculture and Rural Industry (1897–1919)

The dissertation is a fundamental historical and scientific study of the development of state seed control in Ukraine in the second half of the nineteenth – early twentieth centuries. Based on the results of the analysis of historiographic and archival materials, the accumulated experience in the implementation of quality control of seeds and mineral fertilizers has been generalized, the factors that led to the emergence of domestic specialized control and seed stations, in particular, the first institution of this type – the Kiev Control Seminary rural industry. Its most important achievements in the educational, scientific-methodological, scientific-research and law-making activity are revealed. The periodization of scientific and organizational activity of the institution has been developed, the role of the heads of the KCSS – has been proved P.R. Slyozkin, S.L. Frankfurt and V.V. Zadler – in the development of the domestic control and seed business, the stages of implementation of scientific and methodological foundations for the implementation of seed quality control have been identified and characterized.
