The object of research is the units of expressive syntax in O. Honchar's «Diaries».
The purpose of the research is to identify and to classify means of expression at the level of a simple sentence, simple expanded sentence, a compound sentence (homogeneity, parcelling, enumeration, parenthetical clauses, inversion), and thus to allocate the expressional potential of syntactic constructions in such kind of art creativity as diaries.
Research methods. To perform the tasks set in the study, we used general scientific methods, one of which is the traditional descriptive method, the method of intuition and identification; hypothesis etc.
Linguistic methods were used in the work: the method of contextual analysis, structural and distributive analysis, communicative-pragmatic method.
The theoretical value of the dissertation is that the results deepen information about the concepts of «expressive syntax», «emotionality», «evaluation», «emotive», «intensity», summarize the characteristics of the expressive potential of syntactic constructions at the level of a simple sentence, simple expanded sentence, a compound sentence (homogeneity, parcelling, amplification, lexical repetition, ellipsis, aposiopesis, nominative sentences, asyndeton, repetition, enumeration, syntactical tautology, polysyndeton, emphatic constructions, parenthetical clauses, inversion, separation, detachment, parallelism, chiasmus, anaphora, epiphora), parcelling and joining.
Practical value of the dissertation is determined by the fact that the results of the work can be applied in theoretical courses of stylistics of the Ukrainian language (sections «Stylistics of text», «Stylistic markers of speech», «Means of imagery: paths and their types») and theoretical grammar (sections «Syntactic constructions», «Stylistic Syntax»), as well as for writing term papers and master's theses.
The scientific novelty of the research is that with the involvement of significant factual material at the level of a particular genre for the first time the means of expression in the context of O. Honchar’s «Diaries» are explored; features of diary entries as a specific genre of fiction are highlighted; own classification of expressive means in accordance with the transformation of the original sentence model is developed; the processes of metaphorization and metonymization in O. Honchar's «Diaries» are comprehensively analyzed; the functional aspect of expressive means in the researched texts is revealed. The paper also improves the theoretical basis of linguistic research of expressive syntax; deepened understanding of the concept of expressive syntax and its place in the language system in general.
