Essay

The dissertation presents complex research of main tendencies of changes in publishing activity of scientific libraries since 90s of the 20th up to the 10s of the 21st centuries, i.e. the first period of Ukraine sovereignty, removal of ideological restrictions and accelerating of society informatization. The library research and publishing activities constitute the complex object of study, which includes formation, development and functioning of research and publishing library production as a system aims at realization of science, research, information, analytic activities of the library. Fundamental changes in libraries activity and internal structure, primarily in the leading scientific library − V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (VNLU) − are stated, development of new scientific trends and functions in renewed country in interconnectedness with development of scientific and publishing activities, is characterized. VNLU creates and develops new structure with research institutes (research of manuscripts, library studies, book studies, archive studies, biography studies, information technologies), centers (scientific and publishing, culture and education, conservation and restoration), Service of Information and Analytical Support of State Authorities, National Law Library, Presidential Foundation of Ukraine. Directions, forms, types and kinds of the library publishing production are characterized in complex. Scientific editions which are results of library studies, book studies, library studies, bibliography studies, biography studies, social communications, informology, bibliometrics, are determined. Considerable attention is paid to culture heritage which libraries keep, and issues of libraries activity in information society. Kinds of scientific editions and information and analytical production are specified.
