Essay

The dissertation deals with the specifics of the development of orthodox spiritual music in the context of the revival of Ukrainian culture of the late XX - early XXI centuries. The content of concepts was clarified and genre specificity of liturgical, paraliturgical and extra-liturgical directions of orthodox spiritual music was characterized. It is proposed to distinguish composers who turn to liturgical orthodox music into purely ecclesiastical ones whose choral works are created in line with centuries-old traditions of liturgical practice and secular practices, whose spiritual works are mostly of a concert nature, show a characteristic tendency to reveal their creative personality, synthesize ancient and modern, folklore and academic etc. The focus on non-liturgical creativity of Ukrainian composers of the late twentieth – early twentieth centuries, examines its genre features. It is emphasized that non-liturgical works are characterized by excessive concerts, connection with the traditions of academic instrumental music, modern musical language, tendency to individualize spiritual music, efforts to create emotional influence on the listener and so on.
