Essay

Based on the comprehensive analysis of available sources in the thesis is completed the reconstruction of traditional family rituals as one of the most important components of the spiritual culture of Ukrainians in Transcarpathia. The main sources for the studying of the outlined issues were the materials of the author's own field ethnographic expeditions in the settlements of the Transcarpathian region in the period from 2010 to 2020. At the same time, a number of other unpublished and published sources were used. The work contains a review of ethnographic publications that relate to specific rites of the family cycle. There is a historic and graphical analysis of professional literature, which became the basis for the scientific study of traditional culture. The characteristics of methods and principles of ethnological research are also given. Methods of theoretical and empirical levels of cognition are considered separately. The proposed thesis presents a comparative analysis of family rites in the ethnographic groups of Transcarpathia – Dolyniany, Hutsuly, Boyky and Lemky. Typical cultural features of the region in the context of interethnic influences are traced. It has been established that a significant number of key components of family rituals coincide or are similar to those that represent the rituals not only of all Ukrainians, but also of other Slavic and non-Slavic peoples.
