Essay

Object of the research – the adverbial locative, temporal and logical prepositions and prepositional equivalents; aim – to define the semantics of locative, temporal and logical (intentional, causative, conditional, admissible) prepositions, to establish their motivational base, to identify their functional potential, to find out the syntagmatic resource of prepositional language means i.e. the representatives of adverbial semantic-syntactic relations; methods – abstraction, comparative, analogy, generalization, induction, deduction, general philological argumentation, logical comparison, structural methods, methods and techniques (contextual, distributive, contextual-situational, component analysis), comparative, continuous selection method, quantitative analysis; novelty – for the first time in Ukrainian Studies in which the systematic research of adverbial semantic-syntactic relations of prepositions in the modern Ukrainian literary language and reveals deep connections between derived prepositions and their motive words (nouns, adverbs, adjectives, verbs); the lexical repertoire of locative, temporal and logical prepositions has been clarified and supplemented, the syntagmatic potential of adverbial prepositions has been presented, the concepts of “moderate proximity / distance”, “fixed distance”, “considerable distance”, “condition-assistance”, “condition-opposition”, “localized condition”, “condition-presence / absence”, “condition-situation”, “condition-calculation”, “tolerance-diversity”, “tolerance-incompatibility”, “tolerance-independence” have been introduced into scientific research; outcomes of the research – already known and new knowledge about the connected system of the modern Ukrainian language has been deeply explored, the ideas about the external and internal semantic connections covering the adverbial zone of receivers in general and its separate significant segments have been expanded, the perspectives for new studies on problems of semantic-syntactic relation differentiation have been outlined for further study; the processed factual material can be useful in lexicographic practice and in further research on the prepositional system of the Ukrainian language, and for creating theoretical courses in morphology, writing textbooks on the Ukrainian grammar, conducting special courses and seminars in morphology and syntax; the field of study – philology.
